SS Scoops

A scoop is the hand tool used to take powder, granules or other bulk material out of a container, either to dispense a weighed quantity or to draw a sample. In a pharmaceutical plant it is used at the dispensing booth, in sampling rooms and on the production floor, wherever material is moved by hand from one container to another.

Because the scoop touches the product directly, it has to be easy to clean completely between materials. Residue left in a crevice or a rough weld can carry over into the next material, which is cross-contamination. That is why pharma scoops are made in a corrosion-resistant grade, with a seamless bowl, rounded inside corners, a smooth polished surface and welds ground flush, so that nothing can hide.

Our SS scoops are made in SS 316 with a mirror finish. SS 316 contains molybdenum, which gives it better resistance than SS 304 to chlorides, acids and strong cleaning agents, so the surface stays smooth after repeated washing. We make them in two shapes: the open type scoop, with a shallow bowl for quick dispensing and sampling, and the cylinder type scoop, with a deep cylindrical body that holds powder without spilling as it is carried. Both have a round handle that is easy to grip with gloves.

Scoops are made in sizes up to 3 kg capacity, so a plant can keep small scoops for weighing out minor ingredients and larger ones for bulk transfer. Custom sizes and designs are available on request.

Good practice is to keep scoops dedicated: one set per material or per product, labelled, cleaned after use and stored covered until they are needed. Inspect each scoop after cleaning for residue, dents or scratches that could hold material, and replace damaged ones.
