A laminar air flow unit passes air through a HEPA filter and delivers it in a uniform, unidirectional stream over the work area, giving a Class 100 (ISO Class 5) zone for sterile and aseptic work. We build vertical, horizontal, ceiling-suspended and mobile models in SS 304 or powder-coated MS.
Every laminar air flow is manufactured in-house at our factory in Hadapsar, Pune. We supply, install and commission laminar air flow units across India, including Mumbai, Hyderabad, Chennai, Bangalore and Ahmedabad, and build each unit to your room layout, size and process requirements.

What is a laminar air flow and how does it work?
A laminar air flow (LAF) unit, also called a laminar air flow cabinet, laminar air flow chamber, laminar flow hood or clean bench, creates a small, particle-free work zone inside an ordinary room. Room air is drawn in through a pre-filter, pressurised by a blower and pushed through a HEPA filter that removes 99.97% or more of particles of 0.3 micron. The clean air then leaves the filter face as a uniform, one-directional stream that sweeps the work surface.
Because the air moves in parallel layers at a steady speed, usually around 0.45 m/s, particles are carried away instead of settling on the product. This keeps the work zone at Class 100 (ISO Class 5), the same air quality required for critical aseptic operations, even when the surrounding room is a lower class.
A laminar air flow protects the product, not the operator: air flows out of the work zone towards the person working at it. For work with infectious organisms use bio safety cabinets, and for weighing or sampling powders that should not reach the operator use dispensing booths.
Types
Laminar air flow types we manufacture
Vertical laminar air flow
The HEPA filter sits above the work surface and air flows down onto it. Less air is blown at the operator, and taller items and vessels fit easily. The usual choice for sterile pharma and microbiology work.
Horizontal laminar air flow
The HEPA filter forms the back wall and air flows across the work surface towards the operator. Suits flat bench work where items are placed in the cleanest first air.
Ceiling suspended laminar air flow
A HEPA module hung from the ceiling over a process, such as a filling or dispensing point, with clear PVC strip curtains around the zone below.

How to choose the right laminar air flow
Vertical or horizontal
Vertical for sterile pharma work, tall items or when you want less air on the operator; horizontal for flat bench work. Neither protects the operator from hazardous material. Either can be built on castor wheels as a mobile unit, so the clean zone can be moved between rooms or production lines.
Work zone size
Choose the working width and depth for what you handle and how many people work at it. We build to custom sizes.
Air velocity and class
Check the unit delivers a uniform velocity, typically 0.45 m/s ±20%, to hold Class 100 (ISO Class 5) at the work surface.
Construction
SS 304 for cleanrooms and frequent disinfection; powder-coated MS where budget matters and the room is less demanding.
Fittings
Magnehelic gauge to watch filter loading, UV germicidal lamp with hour meter, LED lighting, gas and air cocks, and sliding acrylic doors.
Testing and service
A PAO port makes HEPA integrity testing easy. Plan for velocity and particle checks at installation and at regular intervals.

Can a laminar air flow be used for infectious or hazardous material?

How often should the HEPA filter of a laminar air flow be checked?
Check the gauge reading routinely, and test HEPA integrity (through the PAO port), air velocity and particle count at installation, after any filter change and at the interval set by your quality system.
