SS Multi-purpose Trolley

A multi-purpose trolley is a general-purpose cart for moving materials, tools, containers and documents around a plant, hospital or lab. Unlike a flat-deck platform trolley, which carries one large load low to the floor, a multi-purpose trolley usually has two or more shelves, and may add a cabinet, drawers, a bottle holder or a rail guard, so mixed items can be carried and organised on the way.

Moving things on a trolley instead of by hand reduces strain and the number of trips. Manual handling guidance says to push rather than pull where possible, with the handle between waist and shoulder height and wheels that roll easily, so the force needed to start and steer stays low. A rail guard stops items sliding off when the trolley turns or crosses a threshold.

In clean areas the trolley is part of the contamination control plan. It is cleaned with the room and moves between areas, so it should have smooth stainless steel surfaces, welded joints, rounded edges and no hollow sections that collect dirt. Some plants keep separate trolleys for each area, so a trolley from a less clean area never enters a cleaner one.

Our multi-purpose trolleys, which we also call movement trolleys, are made in SS 304 or SS 316 in a matt or mirror finish, and also in powder-coated mild steel. Designs include open two-shelf trolleys with a push handle, closed cabinet trolleys with double doors, and trolleys with a drawer, cabinet and rail guard. They run on heavy-duty swivel castors with PU wheels, have an ergonomic push handle, and are made in multiple sizes and configurations, including sieve trolleys with rod shelves. Rail guards (safeguards) are available on request.

Our multi-purpose trolleys are used in cleanrooms, hospitals and other indoor areas, and also outdoors, where a sturdy trolley is needed to move goods between buildings.
