Guide

What is a platform trolley and how does it work?

A platform trolley, also called a flatbed trolley or platform truck, is a flat deck on four castor wheels with a push handle, used to move cartons, bags, drums, containers and parts around a plant by hand. It takes the weight of the load off the operator: instead of lifting and carrying, the operator only has to push, steer and stop.

How easily it does that depends on the wheels and how they are arranged. A common layout puts two swivel castors at the handle end, which steer, and two fixed castors at the far end, which keep the trolley running straight down long corridors. Brakes on the swivel castors hold the trolley still while it is loaded. The wheel material decides how the trolley behaves on your floor: polyurethane rolls quietly without marking epoxy or vinyl, rubber is the softest and quietest, and nylon is hard and rolls easily under heavy loads on smooth concrete but can mark softer floors.

Our platform trolleys are fabricated in SS 304 or SS 316, or in mild steel with a powder-coated finish where stainless steel is not needed. The deck, handles and rails are sized to the loads you move and to the doors, lifts and corridors the trolley has to pass through.

Types

Platform trolley types we manufacture

Single-handle platform trolley made by Neelansh Equipments & Machines, Pune

Single-handle platform trolley

A flat deck with one push handle. The most common type, used for general material movement across a plant.

Double-handle platform trolley made by Neelansh Equipments & Machines, Pune

Double-handle platform trolley

Handles at both ends, so the trolley can be pushed from either side in narrow aisles where it cannot be turned round.

Trolley with side rails made by Neelansh Equipments & Machines, Pune

Trolley with side rails

Rails around the deck keep cartons, bags and parts from sliding off when the trolley turns or crosses a threshold.

Box-type trolley with lid made by Neelansh Equipments & Machines, Pune

Box-type trolley with lid

A closed stainless steel box on castors with a hinged lid, for material that must stay covered while it moves.

Carrying media, consumables and equipment between labs, stores and production suites.

Hospitals

Moving supplies, linen and stores between departments, lifts and wards.

Food processing

Carrying ingredients, trays and packed goods through hygienic processing and packing areas.

Tyre and engineering units

Moving components and parts between machines, assembly lines and stores.

Stores and warehouses

Picking, staging and moving cartons and bags between racks, loading bays and the shop floor.

Buying guide

How to choose the right platform trolley

Load

Tell us the heaviest load and whether it is spread across the deck or concentrated in one place. This sets the deck, frame and castor rating.

Deck size

Large enough for your biggest carton or container, but small enough to pass through doors, lifts and airlocks. Deck size, handle height and rail layout made to suit your loads and the spaces the trolley works in.

Wheel material

Polyurethane for cleanroom and epoxy floors, rubber where quiet running matters, nylon for heavy loads on smooth concrete.

Castor layout and brakes

Two swivel and two fixed castors track straight on long runs; four swivel castors turn in tighter spaces. Brakes hold the trolley while loading.

Material

SS 304 for most clean and wet areas, SS 316 where strong chemicals or disinfectants are used, powder-coated MS for dry stores. SS 304 or SS 316 for cleanrooms, hospitals and wet areas; mild steel with powder coating for stores and general industry.

Handles, rails or box

One handle, two handles, side rails or a lidded box, depending on what you carry and how it must be protected.

Questions

F.A.Q.

Do you supply platform trolleys outside Pune?

Yes. We manufacture in Pune and supply platform trolleys across India, including Mumbai, Hyderabad, Chennai, Bangalore and Ahmedabad. Share your sizes and quantities and we will send a quotation.

Which wheels are best for a platform trolley?

Polyurethane wheels suit most cleanroom, epoxy and tiled floors because they roll quietly and do not mark the floor. Rubber wheels are softer and quieter, and nylon wheels roll easily under heavy loads on smooth concrete. We fit PU, rubber or nylon wheels to suit your floor and load.

Can you make a platform trolley to our size?

Yes. Deck size, handle height and the choice of side rails, double handles or a lidded box are all made to order. Tell us the largest load you move and the narrowest door or lift it has to pass through.
