What is a belt conveyor and how does it work?
A belt conveyor moves products along a line on a continuous loop of belt, carrying bottles, cartons, packs and parts from one machine or workstation to the next without anyone lifting or carrying them.
The belt runs over two pulleys, one at each end of a stainless steel frame. A geared motor turns the drive pulley at one end, which pulls the belt along; the pulley at the other end keeps the belt tensioned and tracking straight. Between them, the belt is supported by a bed so it stays flat under load. A variable frequency drive (VFD) sets the motor speed, so the conveyor can be matched to the machines it feeds. Guide rails along the sides keep products in line, and can be adjusted for different product sizes.
Our SS conveyors are built in SS 304, 16 SWG, with a matt finish, a Bonfiglioli motor and gearbox and a PVC-coated endless belt, or PU belts where needed. They run on a single-phase 230 V supply. Length and layout are made to your line, including flat conveyors with stainless steel work surfaces on either side for manual packing.
Speed matters more than it looks. A conveyor that runs too fast for the machine it feeds lets products bunch up and topple at the end of the line; one that runs too slowly leaves the next machine waiting. The VFD lets the speed be set and fine-tuned on site, so the conveyor keeps pace with the machines on either side.

How to choose the right conveyor
Length and layout
Measure the distance between machines and decide where operators stand along the line. Length, width and height made to suit your line and room.
Products carried
Tell us the size, weight and shape of the products, so the belt width and guide rails suit them. Side rails adjust to the width of the product, so one conveyor handles different sizes.
Speed
VFD control lets the conveyor run at the speed of the machines it links. A control panel with VFD sets the belt speed to match the machines before and after it.
Belt material
PVC-coated belts are economical and common; PU belts resist oils and fats and are easier to clean. PVC-coated endless belts as standard, PU belts where oils, fats or easier cleaning matter.
Frame material
SS 304 suits most clean and wet areas and is easy to clean.
Installation and maintenance
A belt conveyor has few moving parts and needs little maintenance. We install our conveyors at your site.
