What is a visual inspection table and how does it work?
A visual inspection table, also called an inspection table with light, is a stainless steel workstation where operators examine products by eye, under controlled light and against plain black and white backgrounds, to find and remove defective units. In pharmaceutical plants it is used to check vials, ampoules, bottles, tablets, capsules and packed products before they move to the next stage.
The black and white panels are what make the inspection work. Light-coloured particles, fibres and glass flakes stand out against the black panel, while dark particles, specks and discolouration show up against the white one. For injectable products, the pharmacopoeias (USP <790> and Ph. Eur. 2.9.20) describe manual inspection under 2,000 to 3,750 lux of light, looking at each container for about five seconds against each background while gently swirling or inverting it.
Our visual inspection table has an LED light under a hood above the work area, giving 2,000 lux of glare-free light on the inspection zone, with two white and two black acrylic panels in alternate positions behind it. A rejection drawer under the top keeps rejected units apart from accepted ones. The frame is SS 304, with SS 316 on request, and a stiffener under the top keeps the work surface rigid and free of vibration.

LED light with hood
Gives 2,000 lux of glare-free light on the inspection zone; the hood keeps the lamp out of the operator's eyes.
Black and white acrylic panels
Two white and two black panels in alternate positions, so each unit can be checked against both backgrounds.
Rejection drawer
A drawer under the top for defective units, so rejects cannot be mixed back into good product.

How to choose the right visual inspection table
Light level
Check the light level your inspection procedure specifies. Manual inspection of injectables is commonly done at 2,000 to 3,750 lux; our standard light gives 2,000 lux at the inspection zone.
Background arrangement
Decide how many black and white panels you need and where, based on how many operators inspect at once.
Working height and size
Operators inspect for long periods, so choose a comfortable working height and enough length for each station.
Handling rejects
Plan where rejects go. A rejection drawer keeps them apart and makes reconciliation at the end of the batch easier.
Material and finish
SS 304 suits most areas; SS 316 where strong disinfectants are used. Both come in a matt or mirror finish.
Fixed or mobile
Choose a fixed table for a dedicated inspection room, or wheels if the table moves between lines.

Can you make customized size table?
Yes, we can make customised size table.
What is the difference between stainless steel and mild steel?
Stainless steel will not rust while mild steel will. But we are applying powder coating process for preventing from rusting in mild steel.

Why does a visual inspection table have black and white backgrounds?
