What is a cross-over bench and how does it work?
A cross-over bench (also written crossover bench), also called a step-over bench or gowning bench, is a stainless steel bench placed across the change room at the entry to a clean area. It marks the line between the outer, unclassified side and the clean side, and it is where people change their footwear on the way in.
A person sits on the bench from the outer side, takes off their outside shoes, puts a shoe cover or cleanroom shoe on one foot and swings that foot over to the clean side, then does the same with the other foot. Shoes that have walked on the corridor floor never touch the clean side, and because the bench runs across the room, nobody can simply walk past it. That makes the change room easier to keep clean and the gowning procedure easier to follow.
Storage built into the bench keeps cleanroom shoes, shoe covers, masks, gloves and head caps where they are needed, and compartments can collect used items. We make cross-over benches in SS 304 or SS 316 in a matt or mirror finish, with a stiffener under the top for strength, on adjustable legs or on wheels.

How to choose the right cross-over bench
Length and seating
Size the bench for the number of people who change at the same time, for example at a shift change. Length, height and number of compartments made to suit your change room.
Storage type
Choose open shelves, separate compartments or lockable storage, depending on what is kept at the bench. Other layouts built to your requirement, with compartments for masks, gloves, head caps, shoe covers and waste.
Seat height
Ask for a seat height that lets people sit comfortably and swing their legs over without touching the floor on the wrong side.
SS 304 or SS 316
SS 304 suits most change rooms; SS 316 resists pitting better where strong disinfectants are used every day.
Legs or wheels
Adjustable legs keep the bench level on uneven floors; wheels let it be moved for cleaning. Fitted with wheels so the bench can be moved for cleaning or when the change room layout changes.
Easy to clean
