SS Stand Accessories

Cleanrooms and labs are full of small things that need a place: settle plates during environmental monitoring, boxes of gloves at the gowning point, bottles of IPA for sanitising gloved hands, helmets and aprons in change rooms. When these items sit on benches, window sills or the floor, they collect dust, get knocked over and make surfaces harder to clean. A stand gives each item a fixed, cleanable place, at the height and angle where it is used.

The same cleanroom rules apply to a stand as to any other piece of furniture. It should be made of a material that does not rust or shed particles and survives daily wiping with disinfectant, which is why stainless steel is used. It should have few joints and no hollow places where dirt can hide, round tubes or wire frames rather than boxed sections, and feet or bases that keep it steady on a smooth floor. Wherever possible it should also make the job hands-free.

Plate exposure stands are a good example. In passive air monitoring, open agar settle plates are left in risk-assessed positions to catch microbes settling from the air; EU GMP Annex 1 allows 90 mm settle plates to be exposed for up to 4 hours. A stand holds the plate at a fixed height and position, so the same point is monitored every time and the plate is not disturbed on a busy bench.

IPA bottle stands support glove sanitisation. Staff spray or rub 70 % IPA over gloved hands at gowning and between critical steps. A wall-mounted stand with a lever arm lets them dispense by pressing with the arm or elbow, so the bottle and pump are not handled with sanitised gloves.
