SS Pallet

A pallet keeps goods off the floor so they can be stored, stacked and moved by forklift or pallet truck. In most warehouses that pallet is wood. In pharmaceutical, food and hospital stores, wood is a problem: it absorbs moisture from floors and cleaning, it can harbour mould and bacteria, it splinters and sheds fibres, and it cannot be properly cleaned or disinfected. GMP-minded plants therefore keep wooden pallets out of production and clean areas, usually transferring goods onto hygienic pallets at the warehouse.

Stainless steel pallets solve those problems. They do not absorb water, rust or shed, they can be washed and disinfected like any other stainless steel equipment, and they outlast wood. They are the usual choice for materials that move into or near clean areas, for cold and wet stores, and for anywhere a pallet must be cleaned between uses.

A pallet is only useful if it suits the equipment that moves it. Forklift forks and pallet truck forks need clear openings of the right height and width, and the deck must spread the load so that bags, drums and boxes sit steady. The pallet should also be sized to your racks, doors and the loads you store.

Our SS pallets are made in SS 304 in a matt or mirror finish. Designs include slatted-deck pallets on legs and pallets with a framed base, both open between the slats so water drains and air can circulate. They are designed to be used with forklifts and pallet jacks, built for high loads and available in various designs and sizes, which we make to your requirement.

Pallets are often used at material transfer points: goods arrive on wooden pallets in the warehouse, are moved onto SS pallets, and only the SS pallets go on into the controlled area.

Look after them like any other clean-area equipment. Wash, disinfect and dry pallets on a schedule and before they go into a controlled area, inspect welds, slats and feet for damage, and keep the pallets used beyond the transfer point separate from those used in the warehouse. When loading, centre heavy items, spread the weight across the slats, keep loads within the edges of the deck and never exceed the load the pallet is made for.
